The Global Wellness Institute defines wellness as “the active pursuit of activities, choices and lifestyles that lead to a state of holistic health.” Wellness is not a passive or static state but rather an “active pursuit” that is associated with intentions, choices and actions as we work toward an optimal state of health and wellbeing. Wellness is linked to holistic health—that is, it extends beyond physical health and incorporates many different dimensions that should work in harmony.
As we live in an era of continuous change, we attempt to cope with the ever-changing dynamics that in the process subjects us to much stress that reverberates through our body and mind. Overtime, as these stresses accumulate and assimilate, we find ourselves falling susceptible to the effects of an impaired wellbeing that manifests in various forms of mental and physical conditions that we struggle to come to terms with.
Given the burgeoning statistics in the number of afflicted individuals and the increasing precedence given to mental wellness within the Singapore landscape, NuLife decided to embark on the U W.O.W. programme, that is an extension of the U Matter Initiative. The programme advocates adopting self-care as the cornerstone of the healing journey and seeks to equip individuals with skills that buffer them against stressors in today’s fast-paced world through well-intended collaborations with Wellness Professionals.
Let us pave a healthy way to approach life challenges in a proactive and peaceful way and work collectively towards advocating holistic wellness in the community. Learning these life skills and sharing them with our loved ones is the best gift we can give to them.
